Hello! I’m Alba, a volunteer coming from Spain. I have been here in Poland since the start of March. I will be working in School Nr. 24 in Białystok for 3 months. On my first few weeks I prepared a presentation about myself and my country for the children. I have exposed it in different classrooms and have gotten to know the kids better.
One of my favourite moments was doing the presentation in swietlica with the youngest children. They made a lot of questions and really enjoyed it. I felt their excitement and energy and it made me feel very happy.
I also really enjoy spending time in swietlica playing board games with the kids: we play Uno, Dobble, we draw… It’s always a fun time!
On Friday mornings we attend a first grade class and help the teacher, Kasia, with some language lessons, songs and dancing. The children are really involved in the activities and it’s really nice.
Some kids even love to take notes on the language lessons!!!
We also give Spanish, French and English lessons to kids of all ages. I really like doing these because I find it to be a challenge for me, because my options to study next year at university are either to become a teacher or a translator! We try to combine both normal lessons at the begging of the class with some fun games at the end of it, because these classes are voluntary for the kids and we really want them to enjoy them.
Another favourite moment of mine is when the kids recognize me in the corridors and greet me with a hug!
Last week, some teachers from Spain and Portugal came to the school. The teachers organized a welcome event with the students, with typical dances and a theater piece. I was so surprised by the Spanish flamenco performance!
In conclusion, I am really enjoying my time here in Białystok, and more specifically here in the school!
